Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis is a type of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in which fat buildup in the liver causes inflammation and damage to liver cells. NASH is a more severe form of NAFLD and can progress to advanced liver disease, including cirrhosis and liver failure. NASH is often associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
